During this 2 day course you will learn how to forge some of the most important blacksmith’s tools: a forging hammer, punches and chisels. You will have the option of forging a rounding hammer or a cross peen hammer.
During this course, you will develop an understanding of basic metallurgy as it applies to the heat treating processes of normalizing, annealing, hardening and tempering. These processes apply not only to hammer making, but to all tool making in general. We’ll also show you how to properly dress the working edges and faces of your tools. Some of the techniques involved will be slitting, drifting, and striking with a sledge hammer.
