The purpose of this course is to expand students’ understanding of the possibilities of forging.

You will learn advanced techniques such as forge welding, specialty twists, joinery basics, scroll basics, and leaf work. We will then discuss design – how the elements can be used together to create a variety of forms.

You will then combine the techniques to complete either a sculptural or practical object of your design. You will work with basic drawing (no experience necessary) and plasticine to help work out ideas. Our goal is to provide you with both the practical skills and design vocabulary to experiment in the medium.

The purpose will not be to create something final or overly ambitious, but to experiment and have fun.
